ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Sasha Grey made her breakthrough performance as the star of Steven Soderbergh’s The Girlfriend Experience. Since then, Sasha has continued to solidify her talents through various acting roles. At The New Museum in New York City, she took on the character of “Molly Millions” for a stage performance of Brody Condon’s Case, a reading of William Gibson’s Neüromancer. Later, Sasha starred in Lee Demarbre’s Smash Cut, garnered a prominent role as the girlfriend of lead character Vinnie Chase on HBO’s Entourage and landed a role in Mark Pellington’s I Melt With You. Grey has also moved behind the camera, producing her first feature length film, Modus Operandi. Additionally, Sasha has contributed vocals on albums for Current 93 and Lee “Scratch” Perry. Her band, aTelecine, released their debut A Vigilant Car Park in 2009, and has since released two more full length albums. This is her first book.

When bad surgeries happen to good people…..

It seems everyone from Hollywood celebrities to the girl next door is having something nipped, tucked and…nipped again which of course make it seem like all of these surgeries, are well, safe.

But here’s the thing, just because everyone is doing it, doesn’t necessarily mean that complications can’t - and don’t - arise. From ill advised breast augmentations, to multiple nose jobs and permanent fillers, here’s what your viewers need to know about these surgeries:

*Permanent fillers are, well, permanent

Complications: Anything injected into the body has the tendency to migrate. The filler injected – in this case silicone – tends to relocate very easily. Silicone also changes as your face changes and thus, will start to look misshapen ((think Lisa Rinna!). Other semi-permanent fillers are designed not to migrate, eg. Artefill, and are better options 

*Breast jobs may be all the rage, but be warned: bigger is not always better

Complications: There are well published guidelines for how big you can go, and yet women want to go bigger still. Risks of going too big include the implant tearing the muscle, implant malposition, implant rupturing, and increased overall pain. Interesting to note, going through the armpit versus the traditional method does in fact allow one to go bigger because the implant is placed behind the muscle, thus causing less damage.

*The nose knows: less is more

Complications: Multiple rhinoplasties can be dangerous and put the nose at serious risk because the nose can not withstand repeated surgeries. It doesn’t have a good blood supply and usually heals with stiffness. Nose distortion can, and often does, occur.  

To discuss all of this further, I would like to offer expert commentary from a board certified plastic surgeon who is considered to be one of America’s Preeminent Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Daniel Ronel, M.D. Please see below for his Bio.

Daniel N. Ronel, M.D. specializes in aesthetic plastic surgery of the face and body.
